With over 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, Salt Spring Island and the other southern Gulf Islands have a perfect Mediterranean climate to either live or play. Summers tend to be dry while winters have a moderate amount of rainfall averaging around 50cm (about 20 inches).

The temperatures in summer are in the mid 20's Celsius (75 - 85 F) during the day while in the winter the range is generally between 5 and 10 Celsius (40 - 50 F). Freezing temperature are rare except at higher elevations.
